Directorate: Communities & Place
Hours: Zero Hours
Contract type: Relief/Varied
Location: Libraries in various locations in Derby
Derby Libraries operates a network of public libraries that serve everyone who lives, works, or studies in Derby. We are looking for people to join our team of Relief Library Assistants to provide absence cover for our permanent staff. Being a positive and flexible member of the team is key to the role.
Our libraries host regular Rhymetimes, Code Clubs and Technology events, so the confidence and ability to engage with – and promote reading to – children are key.
All our libraries are hubs for digital access and offer regular Job Clubs and IT Taster sessions, so experience and a strong knowledge of IT are essential, as is the confidence and ability to support others using IT.
You will need a good understanding of customer care and have the skills necessary to enthuse customers about the library offer.
There are no fixed or guaranteed working hours. You must be regularly available Monday to Saturday to work morning, afternoon and/or evening sessions.
You will need to be able to travel to different locations in Derby, as sessions may be at any library in the city.
You must also be contactable by phone and/or email.
All employees will normally be appointed to the minimum of the grade for the job. For reasons connected with a particular need of the Council it may be appropriate, subject to approval, to appoint to a higher point in the pay grade.
Before you complete your application form please read our guidance on filling in your application form.
Quick Tip! Remember to align your personal statement to the Essential Criteria in the Person Specification
Please be aware that where there are staff within the organisation who are 'at risk' of redundancy, requirements to redeploy to another suitable role will apply and take priority.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 19th December
