We are looking for a motivated, highly skilled conservation professional that has exceptional communication and time management skills, is able to negotiate, prioritise a varied workload and work within a team.
This challenging and exciting post at Derby City Council offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a highly motivated team which works with a wealth of heritage assets including; the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Registered Parks and Gardens, approximately 400 statutory listed buildings, 16 conservation areas (some with article 4 directions) and a local list.
The Conservation Officer will work with the Conservation Team Leader to provide professional conservation advice to colleagues within the council and customers, and input in to a range of applications for planning and heritage consents - including complex applications, appeals and enforcement issues.
We are also proud of our English Heritage Partnership (PSiCA) grant scheme which has just been completed and Derby Townscape Heritage Initiative which continues to helping to improve and regenerate the City. We wish to continue our track record of tackling 'heritage at risk' and our collaborative community blue plaque scheme. This agenda also sits alongside a proactive commitment to urban design which is strongly aligned to the Council's regeneration priorities.
In helping to take forward the Council's ambitions in this area you will be part of a small team of conservation, urban design and public art professionals with a full and diverse project portfolio.
To join our team, you will need:* A degree level qualification in built heritage, conservation, architecture, town planning or similar relevant specialism;* Post qualification experience in historic building and conservation area work in a local government or comparable setting;* Good working knowledge of built heritage conservation principles and practice;* Full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, or be eligible for full membership, or an equivalent professional organisation.
