Conservation Officer
Job description
Directorate: Communities & Place
Hours: 37 hours a week
Contract type: Permanent
Location: the Council House/Remote Working
We are looking for a motivated, highly skilled conservation professional that has exceptional communication and time management skills, who is able to negotiate, prioritise a varied workload and work within a small team to
deal with a demanding and diverse workload.
This challenging and exciting post offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a highly motivated team which works with a wealth of heritage assets including the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Registered Parks and Gardens, approximately 400 statutory listed buildings, 16 conservation areas (some with article 4 directions) and a local list.
This post will work alongside an existing Conservation Officer to provide professional conservation advice to colleagues within the Council and customers, and input into a range of applications for planning and heritage consents – including complex applications, appeals and enforcement issues.
To join our team, you will need:
• A degree level qualification in built heritage, conservation, architecture, town planning or similar relevant specialism;
• Post qualification experience in historic building and conservation area work in a local government or comparable setting;
• Good working knowledge of built heritage conservation principles and practice;
• Full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation or an equivalent professional organisation such as RIBA or the RTPI.
Applications are welcomed from applicants currently working towards full Institute membership. However, please note the salary grade for this position is lower. A separate Person Specification and Job Description is attached.
It is intended, however, to appoint the most experienced person possible.
All employees will normally be appointed to the minimum of the grade for the job. For reasons connected with a particular need of the Council it may be appropriate, subject to approval, to appoint to a higher point in the pay grade.
Please be aware that where there are staff within the organisation who are 'at risk' of redundancy, requirements to redeploy to another suitable role will apply and take priority.
The closing date for this vacancy is Tuesday 30th August at midnight. Any application forms received after the closing date will not be accepted.
