Are you interested in working with the Council’s political leaders and supporting the historic office of the Mayor of the City of Derby? Derby City Council is seeking a Councillor and Civic Support Officer, who will be responsible for providing a range of services to Councillors and the Mayor’s Office.
Candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to manage complex and competing workloads; and be able to demonstrate an understanding of modern and efficient records management practices.
Whilst not essential criteria, any applicant who can demonstrate experience of working in a political environment, managing projects or co-ordinating public events would be considered favourably.
Working as part of the Councillor and Civic Support team, you will collectively deliver projects relating to service modernisation and co-ordinate actions identified within the departmental Business Plan, with a significant focus on digitisation. Together, you will be responsible for ensuring the Mayor of Derby is provided with a modern and efficient support service, as well as ensuring major events in the Civic Calendar are planned and delivered to a high standard. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be confident acting on their own initiative when necessary.
The role forms part of the Democracy Service, which also includes responsibility for the Council’s constitutional decision-making processes and the delivery of citywide elections. As part of a wider team, you may be asked to be involved in these areas of the Council’s business.
The role requires a willingness to work outside of regular office hours on occasion, including attendance at evening meetings or civic events held at the weekend.
